Meteora, located in the Thessaly is the largest and known complexes of
monasteries in the Eastern Orthodox faith. Six monasteries are built on
the top of the sandstone rock formations protruding out above the trees
and high into the sky, hence giving the name Meteora meaning “middle of
the sky”. It is commendable to visit it soon before the crowd ascertain
it, as it is still under the radar of tourist attraction recognition. It
is believed a UNESCO world heritage site.
